Hola! I'm Anel and this is my crew. I'm delighted to welcome you to my corner of the internet where I share my journey as a Mexican secular homeschooler living in Texas.
I was born in México and it will always be my first home. I wholeheartedly embrace and celebrate my heritage, including the language. I have a background in bilingual education and taught middle school Spanish before leaving it to stay home with my kids.
My five children range from preschool to high school, each one is unique in their own way. They've been my greatest teachers and a constant source of inspiration. My husband and I embarked on this homeschooling adventure eleven years ago.
For years, we were devout Mormons and this extended into every aspect of our homeschooling. The years betweeen the 2016 election and the pandemic brought awareness of things within church culture that didn't match our personal beliefs. In 2020, we made the difficult decision to leave the LDS church and lose life-long friendships to pursue a lifestyle that aligns with our family values.
After my deconstruction, my homeschooling approach changed. I tossed out the religious curriculum and daily Bible devotionals to provide my kids with a well-rounded education that's rooted in evidence-based learning. It's become clear to me how important is for my children to grow up in an environment where they feel safe to explore, ask questions, and make choices without religious bias dictating their path. Secular homeschooling allows me to guide them in developing these important critical thinking skills.
Whether we're exploring the rich history and cultures from around the world, delving into science and nature, or simply immersing ourselves in captivating literature, every day is a new opportunity for discovery. I love to share our experiences and lessons learned on this blog.
While homeschooling can sometimes feel like a solitary path, I'm passionate about building a supportive community for secular homeschooling families. I'm thrilled to connect with like-minded parents, share ideas, and learn from one another's experiences.
I invite you to join me as we navigate the joys and challenges of homeschooling life. Whether you're a seasoned homeschooler or just exploring the idea, I hope you'll find inspiration, resources, and a sense of community here.
Feel free to explore my blog, where I share our adventures, insights, and recommendations for creating an inclusive, diverse learning environment. ¡Bienvenidos a nuestro mundo de aprendizaje!
